Assistant Project Manager

Location: Dartmouth, NS

We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join our team. This role is suited to an experienced construction professional who will work alongside our Project Managers while taking responsibility for key components of project delivery.

Our projects are of various sizes and complexities, ranging from renovations and fit-ups to new builds across the education, healthcare, commercial office, municipal, recreation, and other ICI sectors throughout the Maritimes.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and support projects through planning, design, procurement, construction, closeout, and turnover.
  • Be involved in the overall management of projects, including project budgets, schedules, cash flows, risk, and quality control.
  • Manage and maintain the Change Order process, including tracking changes and their impacts on project budgets and schedules.
  • Coordinate Furniture, Fixtures & Equipment (FF&E), where applicable.
  • Monitor and maintain project financial tracking, including expenditures, commitments, forecasts, and budget variances.
  • Review contractor progress claims, invoices, and other project financial documentation.
  • Monitor project schedules, milestones, and deliverables and identify potential schedule impacts.
  • Develop Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for various design, consulting, testing, and other project requirements.
  • Participate in procurement activities, including proposal and tender reviews, bid comparisons, and recommendations.
  • Participate in and contribute to project, design, and site meetings and follow up on action items.
  • Produce regular project status reports to keep the Project Sponsor and Stakeholders informed of project milestones, progress, budgets, schedules, risks, and key issues.
  • Coordinate between clients, consultants, contractors, suppliers, and other project stakeholders to support the timely resolution of project issues.
  • Understand and work with contract documents, drawings, specifications, and other project requirements.
  • Participate in project closeout, including deficiencies, commissioning, documentation, turnover, and occupancy requirements.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, design teams, build teams, and other project stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with Project Managers to support successful project delivery.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education & Experience
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in construction, project management, or a related field.
  • Post-secondary education in engineering, construction management, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in the construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of project budgets and financial tracking.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Scheduling experience is considered an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, listening, and client service skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills.
  • Sound judgement and ethical conduct.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned responsibilities and effectively as part of a project team.

  • Ability to travel throughout the Maritimes to support various projects.
